GAPS diet

According to experts, digestive system disorders seen in children with cerebral palsy and dyslexia, especially those with autism, can be eliminated with the “GAPS diet”, which is a diet away from gluten and some proteins.

According to experts, children with autism, cerebral palsy and dyslexia, adopting a diet away from gluten and some proteins and directing them to fermented foods play an active role in the treatment of frequently encountered digestive system disorders.

Dietitian Işıl Erkan, who carries out studies on the nutrition of autistic children, told Anadolu Agency (AA) that there are claims that “autoimmune” and “neurodegenerative” diseases may originate from the intestine, and they call these disorders “Gut And Psychology Syndrome” (GAPS).

GAPS diet consultant Erkan emphasized that autism, dyslexia and cerebral palsy are among the thousands of diseases that fall into this group, and explained that the “GAPS” diet has begun to be used for treatment purposes in stomach and digestive diseases, which are experienced due to the move away from the understanding of natural nutrition.

Stating that care should be taken in the nutrition of children with autism from birth, Erkan pointed out that the importance given to nutrition in this patient group increased with the increase in the number of children with autism in the world after the 1950s.

Erkan pointed out that the GAPS diet has a healing effect on the intestines, especially in children with autism, and said, “With the GAPS diet, the intestines of children are healed. We recommend nutritional supplements as a supplement to the diet in children with autism. So this is a beacon of hope.” said.

“GLUTEN MAKE A MORPHINE EFFECT”

Erkan stated that children with autism and cerebral palsy have a large amount of digestive system disorders, and this disorder can be improved by dieting away from gluten and carbohydrates, which form the basis of the GAPS diet:

“These children have some digestive disorders caused by the gene functioning and the lack of the enzyme that gene activates. It is mentioned in many scientific articles that there is a problem in the intestines of especially autistic children. Tests show that they are correct. The child consumes protein. Complete digestion does not occur because there is a problem in the digestive juices and intestinal lining. Undigested foods are especially true for some proteins and gluten, carbohydrates. These proteins accumulate in the body in polypeptide structures. These structures have the effect of morphine on the child. Therefore, gluten and casein, a milk protein, create the effect of morphine in individuals with impaired digestion and autistic children. We do not recommend milk consumption in autistic children, as it creates the effect of morphine. Morphine prevents children from carrying emotions such as anxiety and fear in the face of danger. It slows reflexes.”

Stating that the level of minerals in the body decreased due to the effect of morphine, Erkan noted that these symptoms can be overcome with the GAPS diet.

Erkan, who warned the families of children with autism not to give their children packaged food, conveyed the following information:

“There are studies that fermented foods will be extremely good for these children. These are the traditional foods that came to us from our grandmothers. These are the yogurts and pickles we make at home, and mothers with autistic children can easily feed these foods to their children. We also remove carbohydrates from the lives of children. Casein is a milk protein, we do not recommend consumption of milk in children with autism because it creates the effect of morphine. Since fermentation is a very ancient technique, it is very valuable for us to consume yogurt made at home.”

Underlining that fish containing heavy metals should not be included in the diet of autistic children, Erkan stated that red meat is extremely healthy if cooking techniques are followed.
