Choose one reliable cue to begin: after a snack, after changing clothes, or after 20 minutes of decompression. Starting with the hardest item can work for some teens, but for many children it creates avoidance before momentum has a chance to build.

Parents often see the after-school impact of strategies that are invisible in the classroom. Share specific observations with your child’s teacher or school support team: “She recalls information much better when she answers aloud first,” or “He completes multi-step work when each step is written down.” Specific examples are easier to act on than a general request for more help.
Ask which study habits your child can use consistently across settings. A shared assignment checklist, extra clarity around due dates, or permission to show knowledge in more than one format may make home and school feel less like separate systems.
